We get it. And the solution is more than “just do Kegels”
Your Durham pelvic health specialist is Dana Solomon, MS, OTR/L, working alongside Dr. Norah Whitten, PT, DPT.
We take a whole body approach to pelvic floor physical therapy, to not only address your symptoms but treat the root cause so you can run, jump, lift, laugh and sneeze with confidence. Pelvic floor dysfunction is common and affects all genders. But just because it is common doesn’t mean you have to live with it.
The pelvic floor doesn’t work separately from the rest of the body, so it shouldn’t be treated that way. We take into account the way your body moves as a whole, as well as your lifestyle and preferences, so you can get back to day to day life and to the fitness and activities you love most. We also teach you about your body and your symptoms, so the result lasts. Whatever your gender or age, it’s never too late.
Our Method
Reset. Through hands on treatment and movement we reset your patterns to build a strong foundation and connect mind, body, core and pelvic floor.
Reload. With that foundation in place, we build your strength so you regain your confidence and feel like yourself again.
Perform. Get back to running, jumping and lifting at full strength, with the tools and knowledge to stay symptom free for life.

What Does a Session Look Like?
Your first session starts with a full evaluation, including your medical and injury history. Your Doctor of Physical Therapy then takes you through a movement exam with strength testing and a joint by joint mobility assessment. Depending on your symptoms, an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment may be recommended, but this is always up to you, and we will never push you into an exam or treatment you are not comfortable with. Finally, you’ll learn exactly what is causing your symptoms, and your therapist will lay out your personal plan of care.
Follow up sessions depend on you, but may include hands on work to relieve pain and restore better movement (dry needling, cupping, soft tissue mobilization, active release or myofascial work) and specific exercises to retrain your movement patterns and build strength. FAQ
How is pelvic floor physical therapy different from regular physical therapy? It is done by a physical therapist with extra specialized training in the pelvic floor. We look at your overall strength and movement and can also assess the pelvic floor itself, then put all the pieces together.
Do I have to have an internal pelvic floor assessment? No. An internal assessment tells us exactly what is going on at the pelvic floor, but it is completely up to you.
Can I still be treated if I don’t want an internal assessment? Yes. There is still a lot we can do without one.

What Durham Patients Say
“Dr. Norah and her team are the best! I came to her with what I thought was pelvic floor issues. She used a holistic approach to find out I was misdiagnosed for over twenty years! She not only worked with me during appointments together, but gave me so many tools and techniques to continue on my own. Was hesitant at first because of pricing, but would do it 1000 times over. So worth it and I’m forever grateful.” Kristi
“Norah was extremely helpful with pelvic floor therapy after I had my second c-section. She was able to work with me and provide me with workouts to do at home to help build my strength back.” Caitlin
“I had been dealing with pelvic floor issues for 3 years and seeing different types of doctors and therapists. Norah has used a truly holistic approach to help me recover. She has prescribed exercises with focused precision to work on global issues affecting my body that contributed to the pelvic floor dysfunction as well as conducted specific treatments directly impacting the pelvic floor and hip region. I feel more resilient now than I have in a long time.” Al
